The Day of the Balloons

Year Published: 1977

Creator: Walt Disney Educational Media Company

Complete Record: Originally produced as a Bicentennial multimedia production using a computerized combination of cinema scope, twelve 35 mm slide projectors and stereophonic sound to compress 90 minutes of materials into 17 minutes of inspirational entertainment. The program has been adapted to the 16 mm format so tat the timeless message of “The Day of the Balloons” can reach classrooms across the country. Couples majesty of landscapes with inspiration of the helium-filled balloons. Uses slide projections of differing peoples and “fun” activities on moving background. Emphasis on natural world; city and Nature -- always with balloons floating though. Skiing, woodchopping, and snow ball fights. Ends with kids and families running across field to scramble into balloons, and taking off. The slogan of the Bicentennial Years --’ Discover America’ -- is featured prominently. Face shots of ethnically diverse people of varying ages. Aerial views of landscapes. Inserted balloon images mess up any real continuity with aerial landscape.
