Description: Hodgin's humorous short story is set in a rural northwoods town in 1954. The agonies of youth are depicted as a young man recalls his fifteenth year. Barclay Desmond's overbearing mother forces him to take piano lessons with hopes that he will become an internationally acclaimed concert performer. Barclay practices the piano and appears on a radio talent show, an act which effectively concludes his musical career.
