The Ax fight

Considers, anthropologically, a violent outburst between local descent groups in a Yanomamo Indian village which results in a club and ax fight. Shows an unedited record of the occurence first and then uses slow motion to allow for the identification of the participants and their behavior. Explains the kinship and political aspects of the fights, as well as how fights can lead to village fission and expansion. Closes with an edited version of the fight., A four-part analysis of a fight in a Yanomamo Indian village between local descent groups. Includes an unedited record of the event; a slow-motion replay of the fight; a discussion of the kinship structure of the fight; and an edited version. Raises problems on Yanomamo kinship, alliance and village fission as well as those of the anthropologist who must translate his experience into coherent words and images.
