Description: Teaching Film Custodians abridged classroom version of a Cavalcade of America television episode, "The Arrow and the Bow" (season 1, episode 8), which first aired January 7th, 1953 on NBC-TV. A historical dramatization of the formative years of President Andrew Johnson's career. Arriving in Greenville, Tennessee as an illiterate tailor's apprentice, Johnson meets Eliza McCardle, who teaches him to read and write. Winning her love, Andrew and Eliza marry in spite of the opposition of her guardian, who regards Johnson at that time as a "no-account Carolina mudsill."
