Through the perspectives of an individual family , the broader economic, political and social issues of the day emerge, including the land-related conflicts which resulted in the Missouri Compromise, the Civil War,and the enmity between the cattlemen and the farmers. The film delineates the events and attitudes which have helped form the “American Character.”
