Complete Record: Husband comes home from day at work, wife announces that they’re having a baby. Husband calls friend to announce the good news. Flashback to 100 years ago when infant mortality was higher and parents lived in fear for their children. Narrator postulates that it was the diets that contributed to infant death. Babies didn’t get healthy diets. Studies show that the key is milk. With invention of pasteurization and standards of sterilization, infant mortality rates went down. Further improvements and discoveries in irradiation and evaporation proves even better so that babies may live. Includes footage of quintuplets, footage of a doctor in the 1930s (evaporated milk); pre-Civil War, Antebellum reenactment of a father and mother.
