Description: This 1970s silent news footage for San Antonio’s KMOL-TV (now WOAI-TV) features high school seniors from around the state competing for the title of Texas Junior Miss in New Braunfels, Texas. The contestants first show off their performing arts talents with musical performances, ballet, and rodeo-inspired high-kicks. They then demonstrate poise in the evening gown competition, a true feast of vintage fashion. The winner of this program would progress to the national America’s Junior Miss scholarship competition, held annually in Mobile, Alabama. In 2010, the program changed its name from America’s Junior Miss to Distinguished Young Woman.
