Description: This film reel from Austin’s KTVV-TV (now KXAN-TV) contains a series of television news footage that would have aired as highlights to news stories. Many are silent and would have been voiced over by the anchorperson. The segments on this reel date from March 31, 1977. This series relates to news stories about the Texas Farm Workers’ (TFW) march from San Juan, Texas, to the Capitol as well as emergency medical care and government elections. TFW organized the 420-mile March for Human Rights to bring awareness to the labor injustices faced by agricultural workers, a majority of whom were Latinx. The march began in the Rio Grande Valley on February 26 and ended at the Capitol in Austin, Texas on April 2. Workers and supporters sought to enact legislative change to agricultural work conditions.
