Description: Illustrates techniques for evaluating children with multiple disabilities. Shows case studies of three children--one with a severe cerebral palsy condition and a related speech problem, another with severe visual and auditory impairments and a third who is hyperactive-distractible with mental retardation. Emphasizes the importance of the examiner being adaptible and flexible.
Complete Record: Describes techniques which have been devised to determine the probable educability of multiply handicapped children. Pictures the testing of Kevin, a six-year-old who cannot sit or stand without support and is unable to speak. Subtle movements of eyes indicate yes or no in answer to questions. Millie, a four-year-old, is hyperactive and distractable and cannot speak. Reduction of possible distractions and other techniques make it possible to test her. Shows Jimmie, a five-year-old who has a severe hearing and sight deficiency and is also unable to speak. Pictures and describes ways of compensating for these defects in the evaluation of his educability.
