STS-69 Crew Training: Thermal Glove Evaluation

these are just in there to keep dose or fers or anything like that get in you want to uh what we like R do now is this uh verify your switch is off always do that first anytime you go to that then disconnect that and then remove the battery replace the battery and reconnect off disconnected put my finger underneath that engage it okay and then the same thing down the side here straight sort of straighten it out get everything inside engage it make sure everything's down nice and flat all the way around okay same thing down this side you just verify your off position off tape on yeah he needs to be able to do all this stuff probably more so than we do yeah that's what I was saying what I'd like to do is um if I can get him to come to this tomorrow we're going to leave one glove and arm in the glove box you can pick which one you want to which hand you want to get cool and we'll put a air air in it to get rid of the heat out of it cuz last time never got cold okay all right and I never felt the heat with okay you thought it might have been batteries too you do a coold cold hand warming up and when you the cold hand gets warmed up to the point where you say well this is back to what I feel is a phenomenal temperature I want you just step back out put your hands put in your face and feel the difference okay so be a marked difference in the temperatures of his hand and you'll think that basically they probably feel about the same and that's what I wanted to talk to you about I I'm not real confident that this is a good number cuz the number I got well the number I got before this was a little shorter so it's point one you know what is it l wanted to ask few based on all the calculations the a that you running the wed this is what I think I would like and this is what it actually is make sure you're all the way down in it and then bring this and engage it as tight as you can and know it's it's not coming off oh but if you don't get it tight is we went through the uh the uh thing of whether it need to be tethers or not and Mar Mark Lee did an evaluation with them and everything he says uh no we don't need tethers so I don't think we need tethers I understand that yall yall do have problems with those French hooks they're too small you have batteries in there of course I don't know the status of the batteries the battery came out of the Cil so it's been used okay at 43 um just uh put draw your attention to your right glove first and as you go in and out of the glove you know do you feel all your fingers sort of coming in the finger tip contact at about the same time feel any hot spots or pressure points or uh unfriendly four finger feels a little bit snug around the Knuck joint seconds is what 5 minutes what 2 minutes to when you start feeling it and 5 minutes to where you may start I thought Leroy was saying he after about 10 seconds well what we can also try is uh we can swap out batteries real quick should be plent turn it while I'm chilling my left hand I the left hand will be a good evaluation the right line just never felt anything [Music] before let me do it with a left one cuz I know the left one will get [Music] hot the things we do for space flight I'll do anything to go on an [Music] e and again we just want you to let it get cold enough to where you say well I E now my hand got this cold I want heat okay I think it'll be fine for me I what you talking only thing I don't have on here on M I don't have a little bit [Music] cool slide your hand in the other glove this thought be a good video how do we train our also thermal thermal set this one I can work the hand overall ising [Music] up and the fingertips are a little bit warmer did they get back up to where they feel abnomal no they're still cool I just wanted to to [Music] feel but I thought I might not be able to tell because of War not for sure that this one is as well as this from you know before when I can feel this I could this put the hands in there and see if one feels warmer than the other may maybe a little bit yeah that's fingertips then the back my hand yes the tips are one [Music] and Y try this take your comfort gloves off and put your hands in there then go with your fingers up yes you pluged both of them in yes I [Music] did I put my hand in you may want to kind of like uh making snowballs with bare [Music] hands really is
