Dating to 1944, this edition of "Strictly G.I." focuses on the Armed Forces Radio Service program "Jubilee" which featured African-American musicians, singers and performers. This is essentially a filmed version of the radio show, which was broadcast to troops overseas as a morale booster. This rare film features some legendary stars and gives a strong idea of how the radio show was created. The film stars Ernie 'Bubbles' Whitman, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, Lena Horne, Emmett 'Babe' Wallace, and Timmie Rogers.
The wartime host of the show was Ernie "Bubbles" Whitman. Most of the radio shows, like this one, were recorded before live audiences in Los Angeles. The series emerged as an important piece of Black heritage. Its War Department status exempted the performing artists from the union-mandated recording bans of 1942-43 and 1947–48 and many of the shows contain unique performances.
