Stress: You Can Live With It

Complete Record: A thirty minute film that examines the role of stress as a factor in sudden deaths, and presents behavioral alternatives that can reduce stress and minimize its physical effects. The film focuses on cardiovascular disease as a cause of stress; it uses scenes of an actual heart attacck victim as a framework, and presents two case histories of stress - one man who changes his way of life, one who doesn’t - to dramatize the need to recognize and deal with stress. The opening and closing scenes of the film record the insuccessful attempt to save the life of a forty-three year old cardiac arrest victim, a photographer - a very intense man, says his brother - who has survived an earlier heart attack. Using this man as an example, the film identifies stress as a critical factor in sudden deaths, and points to job stress as a particular danger. Stress, far from being a simple stimulant, is lethal - and it’s responsible for a large percentage of sudden deaths. An interview of Dr. Robert S. Eliot of the University of Nebraska Medical Center who talks about stress. Shots of doctor testing people’s fitness levels, stress levels, potential for heart attacks. Shots of people doing exercise, stretching, on the treadmill, and the bike.
