Description: Produced by the Houston Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with KTRK-TV, this 1963 industrial film highlights the myriad ways the local organization helped facilitate the city’s economic prosperity. The 1960s were a period of immense growth for the Bayou City. Expanded air service routes, plus the construction of a second airport (now known as George Bush Intercontinental Airport), connected Houston to even more destinations around the globe. Meanwhile, the Manned Spacecraft Center (now known as the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center) in nearby Clear Lake not only made Houston a hub for the American space program but also prompted roadway expansion. The film also promotes Houston’s many universities, cultural centers, and prospective “domed stadium.”
