Description: Tarkovsky creates an eerie other world: the Zone. Whether caused by a meteorite or the landing of an alien spacecraft, the result is the suspension of the normal laws of physics and causation. At the center of the Zone is a large house with a room that offers knowledge of one's most secret desires, and perhaps, the ability to actualize them. Certain men, stalkers, are drawn to the mysteries and dangers of the Zone; the Zone offers self-knowledge but its terrain is unpredictable, even deadly. Tarkovsky's story concerns two disenchanted intellectuals, a physicist and a writer, who want to explore this mysterious region. (Circulates)
