Birmingham, Alabama in the spring of 1963 was a battleground. Here, Dr. Martin Luther King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference took on the institution of segregation through a series of non-violent protests known as the "Birmingham Campaign". Dr. King ended up being arrested on April 12th, and spent his time in lock-up writing the famous "Letter from Birmingham Jail". Just a few weeks after MLK's release, an unknown person visited the Gaston Motel, where Dr. King was staying, doubtless hoping to see the great civil rights leader in action. Amazingly, this person not only got within a few feet of MLK, but he brought along an 8mm movie camera... providing a glimpse into a crucial moment in American history.
