Explains that dams have diverted the natural flow of a river from Lake Tahoe, the major source of water for Pyramid Lake, causing it to dry up gradually. Indicates that this is the natural habitat of white pelicans and cui-cui, a desert fish found only in this region, and that their existence is threatened.
