SIBERIA INVITES YOU TO VISIT

Siberia invites you. [Music] This is neither the southern part of the country nor the Black Sea coast. This is the center of Siberia, the man-made Bratzk Sea. Siberia occupies over half of the Soviet Union's territory. Only migrating birds know where it ends, wrote Anton Czechov. It is a land of majestic forests and mighty rivers. The wealth of this land is incalculable. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] The descendants of many nationalities that from times of old have populated Siberia carefully preserve its folklore and original traditions. [Music] In their dances, they praise the sun, the sky, and the strong wings of birds. The old legends of the Mani tribes speak of people rising up above the Taigga on winged vessels. [Music] Today the man call airplanes vessels with wings and we too will travel through Siberia by plane and other modern means of transport. [Music] There are comfortable hotels waiting for us. [Music] Travel brings people closer together. Russian cottages, old Siberian villages. One of them has become a museum. [Music] Deep in the taigga lies the village of Shushanskaya where Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Soviet state, was kept in exile. We cherish these simple things. They have become relics so dear to us. Possibly it was this candle that threw light on the paper when Lenon wrote his prophetic words that Russia's future lies beyond the eurals. What Linen dreamed of has become reality today. [Music] The Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, a large research center is located here. Academy Township grew up right in the Taigga near the city of Nova. Scores of institutes study the local resources and plan their development. The House of Science is often host to guests. Professor, [Music] of course, I could not tell you everything about our township. I will answer your questions with pleasure. Um, well, it's cold in Siberia. Uh, does it have any effect on your mental work? It only helps us. There is Russian probe. Keep your feet warm but the head cold. But seriously, the summers are hot here and the winters not too cold. And sports passions get really hot here in winter. [Music] Siberians are reckless people known for their daring and for their generous hospitality. [Music] The traditional Russian troka [Music] [Music] [Music] So there you are, a sea of activities in winter and in summer, a real sea. Lake Bal is large enough to be called an inland sea. [Music] [Applause] [Music] The sea air is pungent, the water crystal clear, pure and sweet. [Music] Lake Balcal contains 1ifth of the world's freshwater reserves. They say anyone who hasn't seen Lake Bal hasn't seen Siberia. [Music] The cities and towns, some are hundreds of years old, others are not yet 30. [Music] Nova, a large industrial center, is 70 years old. It has a population of over a million. [Music] Many of the towns were founded by Russian explorers. Yurf Kabarov founded the city of Kabarosk. [Music] [Music] The architecture in many of the old cities is an original blend of the old and the new. [Music] Cities are something of a chronicle of a nation's culture. [Music] Museums here display paintings by well-known West European, Russian, and Soviet masters. [Music] Siberians are proud of their craftsmen. Their skill creates beauty from ivory and semi-precious stones. [Music] Our [Music] guests would like to have a ring set with charowite. There are excellent souvenirs in the Bioska stores. [Music] Siberia is equally famous for its furs. [Music] Sable, martin, otter, man, mink, and the polar fox. From here, the pelts find their way to international fur auctions. [Music] Fur hats, Russian boots are the fashion in many countries. [Music] And now a picnic in the tiger. [Music] It's a thrilling experience to go deep into the taigga. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] We end our travels on the Pacific coast from the port of Nahotka. Your route lies to Japan and other countries. Traveling is not only an exchange of information. It also means meeting people and getting a good rest.
