Shringar: hair styles of India

Description: Indian women’s hair styles; their origin in tradition; how the hair is dressed and how the styles may be adapted to wear with Western dress. A stylist makes sketches for hair styles based on those seen in temple carvings and the Ajunta cave frescoes; how the hair is oiled and the styles built up; the use of garlands, particularly jasmine, and jkewellery; dressing a Western woman’s hair in adaptations of Indian styles.
