Explains how the wealth of the Gold Rush created boom towns of the late 1800's which became ghost towns when the lodes were depleted. Returns to the old towns today which have as their greatest asset the natural beauty of the mountains. Points out that this area provides America with ski resorts, snowy retreats and park lands.
