Sherman's March: An Improbable Search for Love

Starts out as an historical documentary, tracing William Tecumseh Sherman's disastrous (to the Confederacy) march to sea, but somehow becomes a hilarious record of filmaker Ross McElwee's own disastrous quest for romance. After a breakup with his girlfriend sidetracks his original project, McElwee turns the camera on himself and his encounters with a formidable group of Southern women, resulting in a timely study of human relationships in an era of nuclear nervousness.
