Shape Hunting - Lines, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals

[Music] [Music] what are we looking for lines a line has no beginning or ending and there are different kinds of lines parallel lines and lines that form angles if lines are perpendicular they make right angles now let's hunt for all kinds of lines [Music] lines parallel lines and lines that form angles what makes this a triangle three sides and three angles but this is a special kind of triangle it's three sides are equal and so are its angles it's an equilateral triangle now let's hunt for triangles you may have to use your imagination to fill in missing side [Music] now you know a triangle has three sides and three angles what makes this shape a rectangle four sides and four right angles the two long sides are equal and parallel and so are the two short sides a rectangle kind of four-sided shape now let's go rectangle hunting [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now you know a rectangle has two pairs of parallel sides and four right angles [Music] there is no question about this shape it's a square it has four sides and four right angles so it's a special kind of rectangle all four sides are equal [Music] that's what makes it a square squares are everywhere let's go a square hunting [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now you know a square has four right angles and four equal sides a rhombus may sound like the name of an animal but it's a geometric shape here it looks like a diamond move it around and it looks like a square that has been given a push push it this way what stays the same the four equal sides push it this way what changes the four angles but the four sides are still equal that's what makes it a rump now let's go rhombus hunting [Music] [Music] [Music] rhombic a geometric shape with four equal sides [Music] what looks like a triangle with its top cut off a trapezoid one pair of sides is parallel the other pair is not a rectangle can look like a trapezoid when one side is closer to you than the other now let's hunt for trapezoids and rectangles that seem to be trapezoid [Music] a trapezoid four-sided geometric figure with one pair of parallel sides [Music] [Applause] [Music]
