Seasonal Firefighter - English

Description: Central Library opened on April 5, 1975. It was constructed in response to the burgeoning population of the region and particularly of the City of Huntington Beach. The original design was conceived by famed architect Richard Neutra and completed by his son Dion after his death. The interior of Central Library was designed to incorporate the natural landscape surrounding it - waterways outside the building are echoed by water features throughout the structure, including a unique, majestic exterior spiral entry walkway and fountain system. Concrete upright beams support walls of glass that allow natural light to fill the space, supporting growth of plant material. This film provides the earliest documentation of the interior of the Central Library, including architectural details, furnishings and colorways as originally specified by the Neutra team. Patrons and staff are shown using the space. Written on film can: "H Harboor (at start). Most in Central Lib"
