Description: Defines genetics, discusses the human egg and sperm, and explores reasons for studying genetics. Looks at the similarities among early developing cells in many animals. Illustrates the smallness of the "hereditary bridge" and points out DNA wherein the hereditary code or information is contained. Defines the scope of genetics and why it is studied. Diagrams and explains Johannsen's experiment and his origination of the terms "phenotype" and "genotype." Shows how genotypes and phenotypes may be varied as in the drosophila.
