Safe Slinging

Year Published: 1970s

Creator: Acco

Description: A 1970s industrial safety film sponsored by American Chain. Joe, a careless steel-yard rigger, is killed by a sloppy lift and meets a white-suited "guardian angel" who walks him through everything he did wrong — and through OSHA's rules ("Asha," as Joe calls them). The lessons: use only alloy chain overhead, read the sling tag, know a load's actual weight instead of guessing, never knot a chain to shorten it, load hooks in the bowl rather than the point, mind the sling angle, pad sharp corners, and inspect and document slings regularly. Joe returns to work a convert. Includes chain-plant manufacturing, proof-testing, and shock-load demonstrations.
