Rebellion in Patagonia

This historical film re-creates actual events involving the brutal military suppression of a series of strikes in the early 1920's by rural workers in the southernmost province of Argentina. The film's narrative is set within a richly detailed socio-historic context and mounted as a colorful action film. The main characters include the anarcho-syndicalist leaders of the workers' movement inspired by utopian dreams of a just social order and the initially sympathetic but ultimately ruthless military commander Colonel Zavala who sets out to crush the rebels but realizes that he is merely a tool of the powerful landowners.
