Ray Nears - National City Community Building - Feb 28 1964 - Part 2

This is a live recording of the 1960s party/dance band Ray Nears, playing at a school dance in the National City / Chula Vista CA area. It was recorded by a high school student named Steven Marak, who apparently had a relatively decent recording rig for the time. He recorded Ray Nears and other bands (more uploads to come soon). I rescued these tapes from Marak's estate sale, where I found them in a dusty, forgotten box in the garage. If I hadn't bought them, they'd almost certainly been thrown in the trash. They represent a rare peek into what a school dance band in the 60s sounded like. I should also note that on Tom Waits was a schoolkid in the area at the time of these recordings, and was likely familiar with the bands on the Marak tapes. As far as I can tell, Ray Nears only put out one obscure 45 record of their own, and have otherwise been lost to obscurity.
