Description: This fairy tale is set around the turn of the century and placed within an American idiom. When a witch catches a man stealing rapunzel plants from her garden, she forces him to give her the child he and his wife are about to have. When the child reaches the age of 12, she is imprisoned in a high tower. The witch uses the girl's long hair to climb up every day. A young man learns to use the same means to visit Rapunzel at night. Discovering this, the witch cuts off Rapunzel's hair, banishes her and blinds her suitor. Wandering for many years, the young man is reunited with Rapunzel, who restores his sight with her tears.
