Description: Presents Project Mohole's first oceanographic survey in search of a site near Puerto Rico where it might be possible to drill through the earth's crust to study the mantle beneath. Explains the origin of the term "Mohole" and disucsses the problem of choosing the best possible drilling site. Shows the use of sonar, core samples, and seismic recordings to study the ocean floor and seismologists, oceangraphers, geologists, chemists, physicans, engineers, and naval architects on this project.
