PATROL AND TROOP MEETINGS

foreign [Music] Boy Scouts of America meets here Friday nights 7 30 P.M would you like to sit in tonight it's only 7 10 now but let's go in with the service Patrol now where are those keys it's a good thing they came 20 minutes early ah here they are oh say by the way before we go in there are some points you should be on the lookout for that light switch near the door it's not only convenient it saves cracked shins in a dark room those Tenderfoot Scouts act as though they'd never been here before now there's a useful piece of furniture a well-built storage cabinet certainly helps keep true properties well arranged and in good shape the two flags are set up with the Scout Masters table opposite the door every Scout in the troop knows what these red buckets are for they're not waste baskets they're the minimum protection against fire procedure and content of meetings are different in every truth but as you will soon see one factor is always the same the importance of the senior patrol leader and making the meeting a success he has an outline of the evening program and a list of all the equipment needed in the troop program notebook the service patrol leader reports everything ready these fellas certainly don't have much time to think about roughhousing before the meeting starts the beaver Patrol scribe gets some of his business done too in order to save time scoutmaster heart comes as early as he possibly can for a final double check the boys have been on the lookout for the new Scout to be a warm welcome the first time means a lot to him well it looks as though everyone be if the boys had nothing to do but wait the beaver Patrol scribe has completed collecting the dues which he gives to the troop scribe it's time for the meeting to come to water have you ever tried to outshout 20 boys the senior patrol leader would rather save his voice for the program it took time to make this work but its practical group psychology not just Theory and it does work tonight dick Billings will repeat the Pledge of Allegiance while the rest of us salute the flag and repeat it to ourselves I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all two okay fellas a few announcements Order review will be held Thursday night be sure you have your cards in by Monday at the latest don't forget the true Pike on Saturday Patrol leaders will each get a sealed envelope of instructions to my home the night before okay Patrol corners in this troupe the Beavers really do have a corner of the room for their patrol corner but if there were more patrols a different fair share Arrangement would have to be made right now though all that the Beavers are concerned with is their part in the Rope demonstrations coming up are we ready fellas yes sir we've been working on it all week the foxes are ready too their rope making machine is all set to go while the Bears are preparing to demonstrate how to whip the ends of a rope there'll be an opportunity for everyone to blow off Surplus Steam a game for Pure fun [Music] [Applause] [Music] come on foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay fellas prepare for rope demonstration a fox Patrol will be first followed by the beaver the eagle and the Bear okay Patrol corners [Applause] while the patrols are getting ready for the demonstrations let's take a look at the troop program chart and see how this meeting fits into the program for the year the good turns and the troop and Patrol activities are laid out in advance by months they follow the monthly themes chosen by the troop leaders Council pioneering is the theme for this month and the patrols have been working on rope work such as lashings Pioneer projects and building a troop signal Tower the foxes have really stolen the show tonight with their rope making machine working on these activities has prepared the patrols for the demonstration projects tonight so much for demonstrations Bill Thompson will now have charge of a knot game take it away Bill okay let's get ready Fox is here Bears here beavers and Eagles this is a different rope contest instead of giving you the name of the knot I'll describe a problem then the patrols are supposed to do the right thing suppose I should say tie two ropes of different sizes together what knot would you use men that's right I'm a drowning man each Patrol has several short ropes but none of them can reach me what would you do let's go here we are here come on you guys right here the foxes win if they have tied the right knots hey fellas not for the big event get your materials and we'll go outside and see which Patrol can have inside of the Tower made first okay let's go what's up okay fellas Fox Patrol will work in this corner Eagles Fair 's here everybody ready okay go [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] well I I think you'll agree this has been another good meeting I want to write it has been a good meeting and while they proceed let's find out why this was a successful meeting for one thing the monthly theme and the activities were obviously well planned ahead of time in troop council meeting and incorporated into the troop program chart but words like pioneering and rope work meant little on paper they had to be turned into action and Patrol meetings the way the beavers and all the patrols carried out this phase was an important key to the success of the troop meeting boy four minutes that should be as fast as any of patrols can do it now let's put it down and check everything Andy you and Jerry see that the polls are at the meeting room dick you're going to bring the Rope right yes okay let's try and be at the troop meeting early with service Patrol this Friday then on Friday evening many different persons had a hand in carrying the meeting along and each one knew what was expected of them the meeting had plenty of boy action under boy leadership there was some good practical instruction and Scout skills and the inspirational experience was really impressive during all these activities and the meetings of the patrols and the troop there was one thought in guy heart's mind what it was all leading up to the out of doors he knew what boys really want new trails in the outdoors finding out what's on the other side of a hill guy Hart knew that his troop and Patrol meetings would have little meaning unless they held the promise of a greater Adventure this then is the secret of guy's successful meeting and you may be sure that the outdoors is not far from the minds of the boys as they listened the guy continue the meeting you've probably all met our new Scout to be welcome to the troop Johnny the next big event ahead for us is the camporee I know some of the patrols were already working on it and now all patrols should get busy and check their equipment and teach the newcomers how to use it if you need any help your patrol leader will arrange to have a member of The Troop staff give you a hand I'll meet the patrol leaders as usual for a short time after dismissal I think that's all for tonight see you all on
