[Music] the climax of The two-month Siege of the Bonus Army developed on historic Pennsylvania Avenue police are entering the first of a score of old buildings appropriated by bonus seekers to clear them out [Applause] in many of the old buildings which are about to be torn down the eviction proceeded with little [Applause] trouble in some spots the bonus seekers fortify themselves too strongly placed for the [Music] [Applause] police, 1500 men of the r Army answered the president's call Cavalry tanks and infantry the president declared that many of those remaining were Communists or criminals with few veterans among them the scene of trouble is but a few squares from the capital itself [Music] general Douglas mgur is actively in command he orders tear gas grenades the soldiers put on their [Applause] [Music] [Applause] masks the attack is on with harmless but effective tear [Applause] [Music] [Applause] gas with Pennsylvania Avenue clear the bonus encampments of miserable Huts condemned many times by Health authorities are burned out [Applause] the bonus camps are no more with the government determined to prevent any reoccurrence of trouble
