Description: This documentary explores the distinctive work of African filmmakers, particularly the renewed interest in the traditions of indigenous cultures to articulate new film Language s. Leading directors such as Med Hondo (Mauretania), Suleyman Cisse (Mali), Safi Faye (Senegal), Gaston Kabore, Idrissa Ouedraogo (Burkina Faso) and Haile Gerima (Ethiopia) discuss their ideas, the social and political impetus behind films such as Sarraounia, Yeelen, Fad́ jal and Harvest 3000, as well as issues of production, distribution and exhibition. The film documents developments in Africa's foremost film festival, The Festival of Pan African Cinema (FESPACO) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and assesses its impact. It also features filmmakers of the African diaspora, John Akomfrah, Nadine Marsh-Edwards (Britain), Clare Watson, Louis Massiah (USA) and others.
