Description: Frampton's film comments on the work of fellow experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage. It features rapid transformations of objects into flickers of light and color; flame-like flares of red and yellow leader; close observations of a hen with an appropriately flame-like cockade; abstract patternings of feathers and filagrees; sparse, statuesque trees against a lonely sky suggesting the ominous power of the natural; and shiny images of a mechanical device which finally takes on its shape as a human figure with legs that walk in place. These lyrical images are framed by old black-and-white footage of a sideshow artist who sets a pail of something afire before a crowd of onlookers. In Frampton's ironical film, the viewer is invited to expand his search from real to metaphorical fires.
