This news segment for Houston’s KPRC-TV, broadcast on August 16, 1963, captures the grand opening of the Riverside National Bank in Houston. Riverside National Bank was the first Black-owned bank in Texas. The building was designed by John Chase, the state’s first licensed Black architect. The bank was acquired by Unity National Bank in 1989 and is still in operation today.
