One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich

Ivan Denisovich is a political prisoner who served in the Russian army during World War II and escaped from a Nazi P.O.W. camp. For his pains, he was sentenced by the Stalinist government to ten years harsh labor as a spy. Now in his last two years of confinement, Ivan Denisovich is a seasoned prisoner in a brutal Siberian labor camp. This film, based on the novel by Solzhenitsyn, follows him before dawn and after dark, enduring the depressions and small triumphs of an unexceptional midwinter day. (Does not circulate)
