All radiation is divided into two broad areas, electromagnetic and corpuscular. Ionization caused by radiation is explained, and the principles governing the operation and use of instruments using ionization to detect radiation are discussed. These instruments include gold leaf electroscopes, ionization chambers, Geiger counters, and cloud chambers. The construction and operation of scintillation counters are examined.
