The film opens with scenes from the symphony drama The Lost Colony and takes the audience from sand dunes and ancient trees to the Piedmont tobacco fields and peach orchards, to the universities at Chapel Hill and Duke. Proceeding westward across the Piedmont, the movie reaches its climax in the resort area and the Great Smokies.
