Nisei soldier

This documentary tells the dramatic saga of 2nd generation American-born youth of Japanese ancestry who, with their relatives, were confined in internment camps following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor yet volunteered to serve the American war effort during World War II. The little-known but overwhelmingly valorous 442nd Japanese American Regimental Combat Team was the most decorated unit in U.S. military history. Drawing on a wide range of archival footage and present-day interviews with Nisei veterans, the film chronicles the history of these young men, fighting at Monte Cassino, liberating Rome, and rescuing Texas' Lost Battalion in France. It links the warfront and the homefront to uncover a controversial episode in American history.
