Description:
Newsreel stories reformatted for educational presentation, including the assassination attempt on President Harry S. Truman. In December 1950, an assassination attempt on President Truman at Blair House by Puerto Rican nationalists was foiled, resulting in the death of one assassin and injuries to others. The incident highlighted the tensions surrounding Puerto Rico's political status as a U.S. territory, where a nationalist party occasionally resorted to violence. Despite this, Puerto Rico was making significant strides towards self-rule and economic development, particularly in the sugar industry. The film also covers other notable events, including the funeral of Sweden's King Gustav V, a tribute to Al Jolson in Hollywood, and the dedication of the newly rebuilt House of Commons in Britain. Additionally, it features the achievements of young athletes in shooting and equestrian skills, as well as atomic testing in the Marshall Islands.
