Governor John Connally and his wife, Nellie, first welcome the foreign diplomat upon his arrival at Bergstrom Air Force Base. Next, Connally escorts Brosio to the Texas State Capitol, where he meets with members of the Texas Legislature and delivers a speech on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives. Finally, Connally and Brosio attend a state dinner at the Lions Club. Brosio was appointed Secretary General of NATO on August 1 of that year. He met with President Lyndon B. Johnson in Washington, D.C., the following month.
