My Darling Clementine

Shot on location in Monument Valley, Utah and in New Mexico, Ford's militaristic western is considered an archetype of the genre. The director recounts the story of the Earp brothers' stand against the Clantons using a symmetrical structure opening with the ominous meeting of the Earps and Clantons and closing with the famous gunfight at the OK Corral. Wyatt Earp, a nomadic cowboy, disdains the lawless town of Tombstone but agrees to be marshal when his younger brother James is killed by the amoral Clantons. Wyatt, Morgan, Virgil, and James Earp are driving cattle to California when they encounter Old Man Clanton and his sons. The Earps learn about the nearby boom town of Tombstone, the older brothers ride in, leaving the youngest, James, as watchman. When the brothers return to their camp, they find their cattle rustled and James murdered. Seeking to avenge James' murder, he takes the open position of town marshal. During this time, Clementine Carter, Doc's ex-love interest from his hometown of Boston, arrives after a long search for her beau.
