[Music] I'm Jim Burgin doll manager of customer relations for Johnson outboards the subject of fuel is on just about everyone's mind these days at Johnson outboards fuel economy is not a new subject but now we'd like to give you some tips on how you can have more funds for each gallon of gasoline [Music] there are four big areas of fuel conservation for voters engine and both performance correct boat handling good boating practices and correct trailering and launching techniques good boat performance can increase your fun on less gas it's true your outboard should have power to plane your boat easily even at reduced speeds [Music] propellers can save gas you want one that makes your rig perform like it's supposed to keep that prop clean and free of any nicks on the blades proper rigging saves fuel your outboard should be as high on the transom as possible without causing the propeller to slip or cavitate spark plugs should be clean and properly gapped follow the tune-up recommendations in your owners manual antifouling paint will help keep the bottom of your boat clean and that means better performance find the best steering trim tab alignment to keep your boat running straight find the best angle adjustment [Music] not too high not too low rearrange gear and passengers if necessary for the best planing attitude another gas saver don't idle around unnecessarily the way you drive is very important in a boat you can save gasoline by accelerating smoothly and rapidly the sooner you get your boat on a plane the better after you get on a plane throttle back throttle back as far as you can and still keep the boat on a comfortable smooth plane this is important as you can save as much as 50 percent of the fuel you would otherwise use drive straight keep a steady speed here are some of the boating practices that increase your fun and decrease the expense fishermen and water skiers can form both pools just like carpools plan your boating trips carefully and reduce the running time no sense in doubling back in search of a fishing hole if you've already been in that area and when the wind is right drift fishing will eliminate a lot of unnecessary starting and stopping skiers can get in their skiing time and cut their boating expense almost in half by skiing doubles you can save gas and time with some proper trailering launching and refueling techniques follow those reduced speed requirements check tire pressures all around both car and trailer temporarily at least forego those long trips go boating close to home know where you're going and you'll save time and fuel fueling your boat is an important area - no spills allowed mix the oil accurately watch and retrieve your boat as quickly as possible you'll save time and expense for yourself and for other boaters these are just some of the ways that you can save gas and have more fun too you may know of others and that's good let's all do our part more fun per gallon it's worth the effort [Music]
