Describes adaptive radiation in mollusks whereby the various species have adapted to the environment in such a way as to avoid competing with one another for food and other necessities of life. Pictures a hypothetical ancestor that could have given rise to the various classes of Molluska living today. Presents, in detail, way the classes of Molluska have become modified and deviate from the theoretical common mollusk ancestor. Shows anatomical details of representative of Gastropoda, Pelecypoda, Scaphopoda, Amphineura, and Cephalopoda, and explains how each was modified from the common ancestor to its present-day form.
