Description: A story which centers on the experiences of an Irish immigrant family in Troy between 1859-1876. The family, composed of iron workers, helps to form a union that seeks fair wages and safe working conditions. In the ensuing struggle, both labor and management suffer due to the combination of armed confrontation, depression, inflation, westward expansion and the discovery of iron and coal deposits elsewhere. Explores the emotional and financial turmoil which beset the Duffy family and which reflected the hardships experienced by many families during America's industrial revolution.
