MIRACLE IN THE DESERT - THE STORY OF HANFORD

Tells the story of the development during World War II of the Hanford Engineer Works in southern Washington. Construction of the billion dollar plant was based on the discovery of a microscopic bit of the new element 94, Plutonium, in California by Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg, now Chairman of the AEC, and others, in 1941, and on the demonstration of the first successful nuclear chain reaction in Chicago by Dr. Enrico Fermi and others, in 1942.
