[Minnesota's Iron Industry- Mining, Transport, Foundry]

Description: 16mm print from a 35mm silent film, covering the mining, extraction, processing and smelting of iron ore out of Minnesota's Mesabi iron range. I believe the film dates to sometime between 1923-1929; as the William H. Warner ship of Fairport was launched in 1923 and film date code is 1929. So, 1926 is just my estimate. The specific title of the film and who produced it is unknown. Features blast mining, train cars of the Great Northern Railway & E. J. E., a large freighter ship, some absolutely massive ore unloader shovels, and the operations of the blast furnace. On one of the shovels, Oliver Iron Mining can be read; they were a division of U.S. Steel. *Contact Regarding Usage* Another scan of the film is out there, however I believe my scanning workflow presents this film better, and at the correct framerate. Film base has yellow tint. Corrected for exposure/contrast lightly. Print itself wasn't a very steady transfer originally; and a few frames had some badly damaged sprocket holes.
