Description: This news segment for Houston’s KPRC-TV visits a local US Army recruitment office as conscripted young men wait to be processed. Later, an office administrator explains that individuals who received a college deferment are prioritized for induction once they complete their education and return to 1-A eligibility because they are generally older than other recruits. Some portions are silent and would have been voiced over by the anchorperson during a live broadcast. The Selective Service Act of 1948 requires all male citizens and non-citizen residents 18 years of age or older to register for possible military conscription. Over 2 million men were drafted between 1964 and 1973.
