Description: At the height of the summer season in Sweden, the quiet villages are transformed into populous little cities. On Midsummer Eve—June 23rd—the peasants gather from all the outlying farms and hillsides, to revive the quaint pagan custom of raising the May-pole, which is covered with their blue and yellow national colors, and decked with garlands of flowers. The thousands of men, women and children, dancing around the pole at twilight, present a most interesting sight.
