Description: Presented by Gulf Oil Corporation, this 1960s industrial film chronicles the construction of the TransAndean Pipeline in Colombia and the specific difficulties of the mountain terrain. The 190-mile pipeline, now known as the Transandino pipeline, transports crude oil from the Orito oil field to the port city of Tumaco for export. Construction on the pipeline was completed in 1969. At the time, it was operated by Texaco and Colombian Gulf Oil. The pipeline is now operated by Ecopetrol, the state-owned petroleum company of Colombia. Robert Yarnall Richie, who shot and directed this film, was a freelance industrial photographer and filmmaker who worked with various large corporations in Texas and around the globe.
