Description: Actress-politician Mercouri visits the teeming streets and marketplaces of Athens, mingling with its people. The legends and proud history of Greece are enshrined in the Acropolis and other exhilarating statues and monuments, some built centuries before Christ. Exiled from Greece in 1967, for her anti-fascist beliefs, Mercouri returned in 1974, and three years later, was elected to the Greek parliament. In this emotional and highly personal film, she pays tribute to the poets and resistance fighters. "No other city has the power to move me to tears and laughter at the same time." she says.
