[Music] people measure things every day and in many ways measuring how heavy things are is a measure of weight your mother weighs the fruits and vegetables she buys at the market so she will know how much to buy and how much it will cost [Music] we weigh almost everything we use at one time or another [Music] trucks are weighed to find out how heavy a load they are carrying [Music] you've probably weighed yourself to see how much you've grown and chemicals are weighed very exactly for research experiments [Music] [Music] when you weigh anything you're comparing it to standard units of weight most people in the world use a standard unit of weight called the gram a gram is a small weight but the gram is still too big for many measurements so it's divided into tiny parts called milligrams there are exactly 1000 milligrams in each gram the milligram is too tiny for most of us to use but the gram is a measurement of weight you can use to measure many things all you need are a scale marked in grams and something to weigh what's going on here what's on your mind will measure me everything we can find will weigh with the scale it's fun to do and walk out in grabs maybe kilograms to measuring the world around us look at the scale tell me what does it show we'll learn more about the things that surround us the more we measure the more we'll know okay now the Rex pretty heavy [Music] 407 grand the cup exactly 100 dirty bad [Music] light bulbs kind of thing but it isn't even 30 gram light light ball [Music] if that was a little happier [Music] 175 grams [Music] the gram is fine for weighing smaller things but for big things we need a larger unit the kilogram it takes 1000 grams to make one kilogram I wonder how many kilograms the cat weighs [Music] [Music] all right up you go [Music] just over one and a half kilograms after about 1,500 grams [Music] now let's see what chewy looks like 34 kilograms okay now your turn about 32 kilograms we need somebody bigger I don't want to get on that mine I just want to see how much weight come on well just one time okay 65 kilogram how big how much what's heavy and what's light these are things you can measure when you know how to measure weight and you can also use it to make something good to eat flower first we need 300 grand [Music] [Music] we handpick gram [Music] now the sugar 250 grand [Music] [Applause] [Music] right on 250 [Music] baking powder can burn a little help [Music] five grams so what 125 grams [Music] there we go a little vanilla [Music] relp [Music] when you mix it up just like the recipe fescue [Music] measure me the world around us look at the scale tell me what does it show [Music] about things that surround us the more we [Music] good morning [Music]
